Did you know that many conventional mane and tail detanglers and serums contain a cocktail of synthetic ingredients, most notably, silicone?

Silicones are hydrophobic which means they repel water. On the plus side, they coat the hair, giving it a temporarily silky feel. However, silicone also displaces water. When applied to horse hair, the very precious moisture content of just 3% is reduced and the protein bonds that make up 97% of hair become less stable and more liable to break. You'll notice that it also builds up over time, leaving the hair lank, harder to comb through and compelling us to use even more!

So that's why we decided to start from scratch and take inspiration from the world of natural (human) hair care with our new product.

Not only does the Mane & Tail Elixir detangle the hair, it acts as a leave-in conditioner, protecting it from breakage and repairing any existing damage. We've agonised and tweaked the ingredients, testing them on our own yard of horses to make sure that it not only does the job on the day, but also improves the condition of the hair over time.

Mane & Tail Elixir is made from 100% natural, renewable ingredients. We've avoided anything synthetic and replaced it with pure, unadulterated conditioning goodness from mother nature.
Instead of silicone, we've used...sugar beet! Yep, you read that right. Sugar beets are a natural source of betaine — a fantastic moisture retention and protection ingredient in skin, hair, and colour cosmetic products. The Elixir is also fortified with Vitamin E and D-Panthenol which, if you're a hair-geek, you'll know are essential ingredients when it comes to conditioning and repairing hair.
